1. A small number. But infinity starts with it. The first, the fire-starter, the matchstick lit in the dark, Lumiere brothersˈ notorious train, the minuscule cell nobody would put their money on. It all started as a game, but a very serious one, mind you. And what came next was... liberating, if not historic. Yet. Throughout its first year, Celula has opened brave artistic projects by emerging and established artists, alike, and has built a bridge between creator and viewer. In the physical and semantic space of Celula, the work of art has transcended its role as an artifact to become a catalyst for human experience. Painting, sculpture, video art, installation art, multimedia, performance, musical mashups, live disclosures of the creative act, weˈve simply set no boundaries on the exhibitorsˈ creativity. Our one condition was the dissolution of boundaries – of those between artists and audience, and of those internal to both, as well. This first year exceeded our expectations. We met beautiful fools who have inspired us and whom we like to think weˈve gathered in a community where they can feel free to experiment, which is to say to be themselves. Each birthday calls for a celebration, and the first – more lavishly than all. And a memento of the works that premiered at Celula this year, during The White Night of Galleries, is the perfect champagne. And aside from the collective celebratory exhibition, Lucian Color will be delighting us with a musical performance, all night long.
