The second edition of International Interdesign Symposium 2016 is strengthening the academic initiative made to consolidate Timişoara’s position as a regional and cultural exponent. In 2014, at its first edition, the bi-annual design event attracted enthusiastic local as well as foreign designers around the Faculty of Arts and Design from Timișoara. Naturally, both around the Romanian-Hungarian-Serbian core, as well as through new intercultural bridges, the idea of making design universal took shape. If initially, we wanted the creations to be concentrated on the axis Romania – Hungary – Serbia, at the end of that first step it was possible to have a transcontinental complex connection on whose ends we can find countries such as France, Spain, Poland, Armenia and even Singapore. In the first edition, 73 works were selected, belonging to 43 designers from the 8 above-mentioned countries, uniting projects from four distinct categories, according to topic and approach. Having already established the necessary foundation for development, Interdesign 2016 edition continues with a renewed impulse. Through inter-institutional collaborations and professional relations with renowned designers and professors throughout Europe and Asia, we have co-opted designers from eleven countries. This second edition of the International Symposium Interdesign is on a completely different scale, easily rivaling with any prestigious design biennale. A total of 136 designers have proposed 255 projects for this event. After careful deliberation, we selected 120 design projects, which are the result of collective or individual work. The large number of designers from the Asian area gives a special exoticism to the symposium, in addition to stateliness and great media impact. Master’s degree students, students or graduates of Shanghai Institute of Visual Art, Hubei University of Technology, Wuhan University of Engineering Science, along with consecrated designers from Hong Kong, Shanghai and other major Chinese cities, contributed to this event held in Timișoara with special design projects.
