Curator: Georgia Țidorescu
Artist: Alina Andrei
September 20 - October 25, 2024
Opening: September 20, 2024, 6:00 PM
Exhibition organised by Atelier Patru
Alina Andrei's practice is rooted in a keen observation of people, their interests, subtle gestures, and emotions. Her works delve into the resonant moments of life: those fleeting encounters with strangers that leave a lasting impression, whether it's a kind glance or a powerful exchange. These ephemeral connections often linger in our minds, sometimes influencing our subsequent actions.
Beyond her personal reflections, Alina Andrei offers a critical lens on how social inequalities are addressed or neglected within the art world and the activity of cultural workers. As a firsthand receiver of cultural products, she provides valuable insights into how these imbalances are experienced and perpetuated.
Atelier Patru is an artist-run space, founded in August 2014 by four artists from Cluj-Napoca: Anca Badea, Cristina Coza-Damian, Laura Prața-Ogruțan, and Corina Oprea. Since 2017, the project has been coordinated solely by Cristina Coza-Damian and Corina Oprea, as the other two co-founders have stepped down.
In its six years of operation at the space on 34 Eroilor Blvd, in an old courtyard full of greenery in the center of Cluj, Atelier Patru offered many artists the opportunity to exhibit their projects—initially colleagues, master's students, and Ph.D. candidates from UAD. It also collaborated with emerging Romanian and international artists, as well as with other independent spaces from Cluj and Vienna.
In 2018 and 2019, the gallery began inviting emerging curators, aiming to continue the good practice of promoting exhibition projects developed through artist-curator collaborations in the following years.
Due to the pandemic, Atelier Patru suspended its exhibition activities in 2020 and 2021, and the old space was no longer available. Currently, Atelier Patru has a space dedicated solely to studio work.
Rubik is a hosting space and platform dedicated to supporting, connecting, and strengthening independent artistic initiatives impacted by the aggressive real estate market in Cluj-Napoca. Curated by Alexandra Mocan and Matei Toșa, Rubik was launched in 2021 under the aegis of Fabricii de Pensule, which is now closed. From March to November 2024, Rubik is hosting RAFT, Launloc, co_lateral, Unirea Open Studios, and Atelier Patru.
