SCROLL, DESIRE, REPEAT
consumed by consumerism and the visual identity of the present
What happens when desire becomes an infinite scroll? The answer comes at Galeria cu Platani, UVT
Art Center Timișoara, where on September 17, at 6:00 PM, the exhibition
"SCROLL, DESIRE, REPEAT" by artists Dumitrița Gurău, Claudia Nicola Ungureanu, Daria
Frozinschi, Lucreția Țîu and Teodora Prodan, curated by Cristiana Ursache, opens. The opening is
followed by an Artist Talk - "Excess in Deficit", a dialogue about the aesthetics of desire, consumerism
and the visual identity of the present.
“We continue to exist in an illusion of necessity, exacerbated by the advertising industry and the algorithms of digital platforms that generate and maintain aesthetic aspirations that are increasingly difficult to separate from personal identity. The desire to consume thus becomes an endless cycle: SCROLL, DESIRE, REPEAT,” says Cristiana Ursache, the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition explores how the excessive aestheticization of everyday objects and spaces, accentuated by advertising and digital algorithms, transforms products into aspirational symbols and fuels a visual culture of desire. “SCROLL, DESIRE, REPEAT” represents an endless cycle of consumption and aspiration. In a critical, discursive and ironic approach, the artists question the apparent freedom of personal choices and highlight how contemporary objects and images lose their functionality, becoming rather instruments of visibility and branding. The exhibition "SCROLL, DESIRE, REPEAT" is part of the project "Outsourced Practices II", coordinated by: Associate Professor Dan Acostioaei, a project organized by the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design, "George Enescu" National University of Arts in Iași and co-financed by the Primpria of Iași Municipality.
