On the 36th anniversary of the fall of Communism and the establishment of Democracy, the artistic project “CELULA free air” brings together artists from Romania and Poland—two former communist countries, now democratic. They propose a visual analysis of how one regime influences another, addressing both its positive and negative aspects, while tracing the impact on the collective psyche, contemplating the meanings of freedom, past and present, and valorizing a shared cultural heritage. The collaboration between Celula de Artă and The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław fosters artistic production through contemporary creative techniques (assemblage, object, installation, etc.) as well as international cultural dialogue. The project metaphorically explores the theme of freedom through the concept of the “cell”: both a limitation and a foundation of life, something that separates/unites and generates. Its aim is to provoke reflection in the viewer by raising bold questions: “Is air the only thing upon which we claim no restriction?”
