Gallery 1001 Arte, on Piața Amzei Street no. 5, has the pleasure of inviting you to explore the fascinating universe of contemporary artist Benterez, within her solo exhibition, "The New Regulation of the Solar Rays". This exhibition promises a profound incursion into the mechanisms of visibility and the construction of reality, as perceived and deconstructed by the artist through collage (and not only). The title of the exhibition, "The New Regulation of the Solar Rays", far from being a simple abstraction, acts as a metaphor for very concrete situations. It describes the subtle and often imperceptible way in which certain themes, discourses, brands, personalities, or celebrities are bathed in the spotlight of the marketplace of ideas, while others remain submerged in shadow. The solar rays, in this vision, do not fall uniformly; they symbolize public attention and social validation, being directed and regulated by structures of power, by invisible algorithms, and by collective assumptions about what is considered "important" or "interesting". Moreover, this idea is also emphasized in the welcoming text of the exhibition. Benterez, a visual artist from Bucharest who began exhibiting collages in 2022, claims a distinct tradition in Romanian art of the last century. With over 300 collages to her credit, many of them included in prestigious collections in France, Italy, and the USA, and with a notable presence in international catalogues, auctions, and 10 group exhibitions, Benterez has chosen to work and exhibit under a pseudonym. This decision reflects her desire for the perception process of her creation not to be altered by biographical data, but to focus exclusively on the intrinsic strength of the image and the message. The artist herself describes her creative process as a liberation from preexisting reality: "When I begin a collage, I set aside the world that is, knowing that I will work with the world that comes, that happens, and with its infinite possibilities. Each cut-out image belonged to a world where it had a clear content – an emotion, a message, and a role in a composition or context. In the collage, it revolts against its old roles, signaling the hypocrisy of a false and prideful aesthetics." Through this approach, Benterez offers a new chance to visual elements. A striking example is that of the dog from the Arnolfini couple’s painting: "A dog that, well positioned in the family portrait of the Arnolfini couple, symbolized for centuries the wife’s docility before her husband, once cut out, will suddenly begin a new life, in a universe where it has the chance to run through meadows, barking happily." Collage, in Benterez’s vision, is a "rebellious child of art as a form of social communication." It meets poetry in "the deliberate construction of places of twilight of language and of the fleeting glimpse of the flux of worlds that change with every gaze." We invite you to discover this exhibition that deconstructs and reconstructs the way we perceive reality, under the light of "The New Regulation of the Solar Rays". Benterez’s solo exhibition, represented exclusively by Gallery 1001 Arte, will be open as part of an extended program of the White Night of the Galleries.
