ALERTstudio
Strada Mircea Vulcănescu 2

ALERT studio is an independent project initiated by Raluca Demetrescu, Alina Buga and Catalin Burcea in order to create a platform of research and promotion of contemporary artistic production. Taking on the function of a laboratory space, Studio Alert proposes a meeting between artists, ideas, directions and speeches from different areas of conceptual and cultural spaces. Critical thinking and interrogation are important and valued as research methods in the contemporary cultural and artistic field. ALERT studio stands as a gallery project, connecting three areas of artistic exploration - PINK | RED | WHITE - into one space. But these coordinates do not mean indexing, labeling and restriction. They may intersect, combine in new shades, and may always communicate and trigger debates.

Accidents in Paradise Artists: Liliana Basarab, Elena Ilash, Ada Muntean ALERT Studio Accidents in Paradise is a group project that brings together the approaches of three artists working with both two dimensions and three dimensions: Liliana Basarab, Elena Ilash, Ada Muntean. The concept of this exhibition gravitates around the idea of accident, seen as an essential condition in the creating process and the dynamics of contemporary existence. Accidents in Paradise can be regarded as a metaphorical exhibition, charting pathways of imperfection meant to celebrate the unpredictable in carefully constructed universes. Paradise is, by definition, a perfect space, suspended outside of history and conflict – an utopic projection which ignores the complex reality of the human condition. The exhibition Accidents in Paradise explores the idea that any attempt to build or imagine a paradise is set, sooner or later, to collide with hazard and imperfection. An argument in its defence is that the notion of paradise assumes a radical exclusion of the accident – understood as error, dysfunction or deviation. This exclusion in particular makes it vulnerable. Through analogy, in present times, any system – political, ecological or emotional – that aspires for perfection ignores the essentially unpredictable dimension of existence. In this exhibition, the artists investigate these inevitable collisions through artworks that destabilize the expected harmony and unravel traces of fragility, inner conflict and material accident. They speculate accidents – whether gesturally (on a technical level) or narratively (in a conceptual way) as a means of reflection on impossible ideals. Thus, paradise is not rejected, but deconstructed from within, with clarity and irony. Accidents in Paradise is not meant as a critical commentary on utopia but as an artistic project stating the value of imperfection as a vital space for creation, reflection and resilience.
