There are very few Romanian cultural institutions with such a tormented history or such a complex identity as that of the "Carol I" Central University Library . Throughout the 121 years span since its foundation ,the Library underwent various modernization stages expansion in the inter-war period ,damages during the war,liquidation and reopening during the totalitarian regime,terrible damage during the Revolution of December 1989,revival and a new expansion in the 90s .Nowadays ,it is functioning at the same time as an educational institution, academic library and a cultural landmark for Bucharest.
